Best, Archie

Currently, Archie attends Wells Cathedral School in Somerset, where he studies French Horn under Simon de Souza, and composition under Paul Whitmarsh. He is fairly new to composing, having only started lessons in composition in April 2024.

So far he has produced a number of different instrumental works, including a fast-paced piano etude ‘The Hunt’, a choral and organ work for the school advent competition, and ‘On Thin Ice’ for cello and piano which was performed earlier in the year as part of a school composition evening.

As a horn player he particularly enjoys writing for the horn and he has been inspired by holidays in the Cairngorms to compose ‘The Curlew’.

With 'The Curlew' Archie received the Emerging Composer Award in the inaugural British Horn Society Composition Competition in November 2024.
