Oliveira, Gonçalo

Gonçalo Oliveira is a horn player and composer born and based in Portugal. He studied horn playing with Ricardo Matosinhos and Nuno Silva and has participated in multiple masterclasses and courses as a player, both in Portugal and abroad.

As a composer, he holds a bachelor's degree in Music Composition from ESMAE, in the city of Porto, and is currently doing a master's degree in Music Education in University of Aveiro. His work is mostly composed of pieces for Wind Band, Symphony Orchestra, small Chamber Groups and often includes the horn. He has also done several arrangements of popular tunes for both Concert Band and Orchestra.

His style is highly varied, but with common influences from Jazz, New Simplicity, Movie and Video Game music.

Human Contrasts was 'highly commended' in the inaugural British Horn Society Composition Competition in November 2024.
